There are so many benefits to booking both your maternity and newborn sessions at the same time with the same photographer. You get to know the photographer by first working with them for your maternity photos, you get the booking process out of the way quickly early in your pregnancy, and usually there is a discount if you book both your maternity and newborn sessions at the same time. And let's be serious - in this economy, who doesn't want a discount?! As a Pittsburgh maternity and newborn photographer, getting to document your special, once-in-a-lifetime moments is why I started my business. It brings me so much purpose - I LOVE showing pregnant mothers how beautiful and powerful they are in the late stages of pregnancy, and I also love capturing those first chaotic, love-filled, cozy moments with your newborn in the comfort of your own home.

This couple was an absolute joy to work with, and I was so excited to photograph their maternity photos at Washington's Landing in Pittsburgh, PA. Their one request was that they wanted the location to show the city so they could document their time in Pittsburgh. Washington's Landing is perfect for that request. It's a little island that has green space on either end with a walking path that connects the two areas. There is also a bridge great for photos, and you can even get Pittsburgh in the background on the South end of the island. For this session, we stayed by the bridge and on the South end of the island. Read about more Pittsburgh maternity sessions here.

A few short weeks after this gorgeous maternity session, mom contacted me to let me know she had her son and they were comfortable and ready to schedule their newborn session at home. I always tell the moms I work with that they can decide when they want the newborn session to be. If they want it to take place the first week after giving birth, that's totally fine. If they want to wait a few weeks or even a month, that's totally fine as well. The bottom line is no one knows how they will feel after they give birth until it happens. So if you need the extra time after your baby is born, take it - don't feel like there is a timeline that you need to adhere to or that you need to get your newborn photos done in the first week or two if you're not ready. The most important thing to remember is that these are for YOU and YOUR family - no one else. And that means you get to decide when you are ready! Just like this family's maternity session - the newborn session was a breeze. It took place when this sweet boy was around 3-4 weeks old, and he slept through most of the session. It was the perfect cozy, mid-winter newborn session. The great thing about booking a newborn session with me is they take place in the comfort of your own home. You don't have to worry about transporting your newborn anywhere, you get to stay where you are most comfortable with all of your things.
