Five Reasons to Book an In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session

Updated: Aug 4, 2022

So you're pregnant and are looking for a photographer to capture those sweet, sleepy, chaotic weeks after birth. And there are so many choices! What style should you go with - Posed newborn, a studio session, an in-home lifestyle session? Only you can answer those questions - it really is a personal choice with no right or wrong answer. I personally think in-home lifestyle newborn sessions are perfect for the newborn stage - read on below to find out why:

1. You Don't Need to Travel Anywhere. Need I say more? Having a newborn changes everything. Whether it's your first or fourth child - your routine will change and getting out the door will become that much harder. An in-home newborn session is done in the comfort of your own home, so you don't have to stress about getting somewhere on time. Any possible way to make it easier for the family in the newborn stage in my book is a good reason.

2. Your Session Will Be Unique. Just as your home is unique to your family, your in-home newborn session will capture all of the special details that belong to just your family! Details of your baby's nursery, your bedroom, or maybe you have a cool staircase that you want included - the good thing is no two sessions will ever be the same with in-home newborn sessions. In my opinion, this makes it all the more special.

3. Siblings Will Be Relaxed. If you have more than one child, the older kids will be more at ease in your own home. They don't have to wait somewhere and be still and quiet - they can be themselves, which will help me capture their personality! Plus, I try to get the sibling/family shots first so that the kids are done at the start and don't have to wait around - that way they can do their own thing while I finish up the session with your newborn. Easy Peasy.

4. Flexibility on Booking Your Session. Traditional newborn pictures are normally done when your baby is 15 days old or younger - before your baby really "wakes up" and starts to be more alert. And I do love those sleepy, cuddly pictures. But with lifestyle newborn sessions, you have flexibility with your baby's age. You can wait past the recommend 15 days - it's all up to when YOU are comfortable - you can wait a few weeks, or even a few months if needed. The pictures used in this blog include a newborn that's about a week old, but I've done sessions when the newborn is as old as three months and it is just as special! At three months, your newborn is smiling, and is already interacting with you and your family. The bottom line is - booking timeframe is up to you.

5. Authentic Representation of Life With Your Newborn. Maybe your newborn is super fussy during the session, or is cluster feeding. That could totally happen, and it's completely fine. I don't expect anything from newborns - they're perfect just as they are! But, the great thing about lifestyle photography is that if your newborn doesn't want to be put down or is fussy and needs some extra cuddles - I will capture those moments of your baby in your arms, and we will still get amazing pictures - authentic to your new baby. True to your family at that moment. How cool is that?

Hopefully this blog has persuaded you why all of the emotion captured in an in-home lifestyle session is best for you. If you'd like to find out more information on a newborn session, or are ready to book, clink the link below!
