The Best School Photos

Updated: Sep 16

It's back to school time! As a kid, I always loved the back-to-school time. Getting new school supplies and the changes a new school year brings always really motivated me. And it's SO DIFFERENT going through it as a parent. This time of year brings up so many emotions. The grieving of the end of summer, the sadness of realizing your kids are growing up and going into a new grade - always getting older, which somehow gets faster and faster every year, the anticipation of increased fall activities, hope for the new school year, and yes - also happiness that your kiddo is in school for the day. This year, my youngest is starting Kindergarten and oldest will be in second grade. It's hard to believe.

Another thing that is synonymous with the start of school is school photos! And I want you to have the best school photos of your kids. In fact, the school photos I am offering - also known as fine art school portraits - are the perfect way to preserve your child just as they are. You won't get the forced smile or an awkward stare. The goal is for these photos to "see" your child. The goal is to have photos that your child will be proud to see up on the wall of your house.

Why Are These The Best School Photos

Oh, I absolutely adore these sessions. But why am I declaring these the best school photos? It's just so amazing to capture a child's true self. School photos? They're like stepping into a magical world where we focus on real smiles and capturing each child's unique personality. With a simple black backdrop, I freeze moments that hold laughter, curiosity, and pure joy - the things that make your child who they are. This isn't your average photoshoot where we aim for stiff, perfect smiles at the camera; it's a journey into your child's character. So, when you choose fine art portraits for your child, I'll make sure their personality shines bright in stunning photos that truly reflect their beautiful, authentic self. You might already have those school photos from fall, but I recommend getting these fine art portraits done too. They'll capture your child's personality as beautiful art - photos that you'll be proud to display on your walls.

What Makes These School Photos Special

My goal with these school photos is not to get a stiff, fake smile from your kids. It's to capture your child's personality - It's not the same as school pictures, where the photographer simply says "smile!" and gets several pictures of your child smiling and looking at the camera. In my fine art child portraits, it's OK if they aren't looking at my camera the whole time. If your child is more serious, there may not be a photo in the gallery with your child smiling. That's OK, and what makes these child portraits unique. It's not about forcing a smile, it's about documenting their spirit and who they are as a little person. A lot of times, I have parents stand away from their kids while I take their photo because a lot of the time, kids will automatically fake smile for the camera because it's what they think parents want. Don't worry, you don't have to go far!
