Late April in Pittsburgh can be either warm and green or windy, cold, and wet. Thankfully we had a warm Spring evening for maternity photos at Allegheny Commons Park. Lake Elizabeth is in Allegheny Commons Park and is the perfect location for maternity photos in the city. We had gorgeous golden hour light for this maternity session.
And oh my gosh, I felt the love for this new little life the whole session. There were tons of hugs, kisses, and baby bump touches! This will be mom and dad's second child - their toddler daughter was running around the whole entire session, as young kids are expected to! Their daughter was chasing geese, running across the bridges, bringing flowers to her mom and dad. I'm not going to lie, it was chaotic - as we know photo sessions with toddlers always are! But mom and dad were so patient. So calm. It was very impressive, and is the perfect example of how to handle a wild child at your photo session.
It's tempting to get frustrated at your kids if they're not listening and running around during your session, but if you get frustrated - your kids feel that frustration and it makes it so much harder to get those natural, relaxed photos everyone wants. And I get it - It's stressful! All you want is a good photo. But often times, the more frustrated you get as parents, the more frustrated your kids get. These parents were cool as cucumbers when their daughter was crying, running away from them, not listening. That's expected from a young child. Honestly, the sessions where the kids are wild and running around are usually the sessions that produce the best pictures! Still worried about your young kids during a photo session? Read about how I get these natural photos with small kids here.
We got so many beautiful pictures during this session, you can feel the love they have for their second child already!
I can't wait to meet the newest addition to this sweet family for newborn photos!
